(I)t is not productive to study a psychic or mystical experience without taking into consideration the interpersonal, familial, societal, and cultural factors in which the experiencer and the experience are embedded.  It is very exciting to be alive and delving into these experiences that themselves can connect us with the universe and with our own deepest selves.  This is what we sorely need not only to enrich our personal lives but to rejuvenate our society and to help save our planet from the ravages of supertechnology.

Traditional spiritual disciplines, of course, teach methods of deepening consciousness, but they need to be freed from their specifically religious contexts so that they can be used by anyone.  What the 21st century requires is an approach that is open to and speaks to the needs of everyone -- in whatever life situation they may be in and in whatever everyday state of consciousness they find themselves.
