For
the moment, this is just the accumulation of notes.
A
New Generation?
What
would it mean to have a whole new generation of far more powerful, responsive,
highly co-supportive, flexible activism?
-
We
will no longer hold the old loose intention of fighting the old -type
imagery. Instead we would together define and build the activist
intention through visioning what we want to see the given situation to be
like, once we have achieved the sought goal. David
Spangler has said that we can choose to continue fighting the old or
we can build the new. Lynne
McTaggart's Peace Intention Experiment is a superb example of this new
kind of activism ...
-
These
activist organizations represent every possible need or challenge.
What I envision is something with the flexibility and instantaneous
adaptability of a single entity that is perfectly capable and known for
its incomparable responsiveness to whatever is on the immediate
agenda.
For example, if an organization is aware of something on the order of a
Katrina or the Malaysian tsunami of just a few years ago, by putting this on
the Hot List [see below], it is asking for a global response to that need in
very specific ways. Any / all organizations and individuals can
respond to this in the instant and it will be ensured they are responding to
those who have the power and integrity and so forth to delegate or use this
level of responsiveness from many wisely.
This is the same whether the objective is to sign a critically important
petition, collect funds for a disaster or like what happened
with President Obama's campaign, and regardless of whatever type of activism
[wildlife, war, disaster of any stripe, votes or response to a particular
issue before a convening legal body in any country, social abuses,
etc.]. It will be just short of expected that in some way most if not
all organizations on our list, as well as the public who supports this work
will together become a nearly overwhelming response in any given case, even
though its nature does not fit specific criteria for a responding
organization. The World Wildlife Fund is known for what it addresses
that is its own work and obviously different from what OXFAM focuses
on. Yet if a crisis comes up, such as getting funds for Obama's
campaign, they could at least respond as individuals, or if a petition needs
to be supported that is unrelated to the objectives of either organization,
by choosing to be part of this "new generation" they still have in
place some way to acknowledge and respond to this need. Of course,
they also have the right not to respond if their conscience dictates
otherwise, always.
The point is, we are ONE WORLD, we all care for the whole of our ONE
WORLD. This could be considered a new version of one hand washes the
other. And with many hands doing a lot of 'washing' together, we
should become co-enablers to help clean up messes like it hasn't been done
before, to much greater effect and with more efficiency and incomparable
integrity.
-
We
could have a continually shifting priorities "HOT LIST" of needs
requests, based on defined issue / emergency, not by organization.
When crises come up or the status of a given situation changes, whatever
organization that may be involved can fill out a form with various generic
questions through which an actual quantifiable figure could be derived for
status on the list. These would show up in some color code on the
list. There would also be space there or elsewhere for a news brief
and progress or snafus, what's needed, a picture option. We would
routinely add the names of all organizations involved in that area or
concern, and for each organization there can also be a list of what they
are specifically asking for.
-
Seems
to me there could be a way to use this approach to facilitate bringing
organizations together to work on certain issues or crises. Or maybe
bring certain designated or volunteer people forward to be the abridgment
for this to happen that would result in greater efficiency and 'muscle' to
protect and prioritize in a way that always supports the triple bottom
line.
-
The
priorities list can be seen either as strictly by need code, regardless of
type of issue being addressed, or/and it could be seen as by type of
activism [ecological or social with subsets].
-
Anyone
is welcome to copy, as an available download, our activism info page to
their webpage. It would be updated continually, so this must be an
automated setup. When they are placed on the list, they are also
then on our email list for notification about updates -- or we would just
send the update as a download, however that can be most efficient.
Also, all activist organizations that join our list [to get on the list in
the first place, they must request it or we would invite them] would be
strongly encouraged to put a regularly updated copy of this page on their
website. In this way, what happened in the WTO Seattle situation,
where authorities took their website offline, could not be a limiting
factor here. We could also arrange this so that if one country or
central site goes down, it could be deferred operatively to another
location.
Transparent
Accountability
This
would be something available on our website about every organization -- or
maybe as links to their own pages. But to be on our list, they would
have to demonstrate their transparent accountability.
Of
course we would apply / answer these same questions about ourselves, and more
if we are choosing to be held to the "triple bottom line" / TBL
[[society, ecology, economy]]
-
what is their mission?
-
what are their successes?
-
how is their funding acquired?
-
how is their funding spent?
