SPOTLIGHT
Almost invariably, and
regardless of their former lifestyles and attitudes, people who have had
death-transcendent EHEs [non-ordinary experiences for which there is no
physical explanation and which have a clearly life-transformative impact
on the experiencer] share a behavioral and values shift reflecting most if
not all the following characteristics:
-
Direct recognition of the absolute existence of spirit, by whatever
name
-
A less typically ego-bound nature (e.g., the experiencer is less
aggressive, defensive, possessive, materialistic, me-mine oriented)
-
A sense of absolute knowing in which life is suddenly perceived as
rich with meaning and purpose in ways that were not evident before the
transformative event
-
Greater tolerance, humility, patience, loving-kindness, compassion,
inner peace, joy;
-
A sense of unshakable well-being, healthy self-esteem and confidence
even in the face of demeaning or dire circumstances
-
A feeling of connectedness and responsibility to a larger sense of
life, such as might be expressed as the global community, the earth,
spirit in all forms of life, etc.
-
A deeper knowing of who and what one is within the larger scheme of
things
-
A loss of any fear of death
-
The realization that, indeed, there is no death.
