Gaining Some Muscle Over
NEGATIVE SELF TALK
Not all self-talk is bad. In fact there are many
situations in which self-talk is very helpful, such as, when you're down on
yourself, you can give yourself a pep talk or whisper sweet nothings like
delightful reverberations of wind chimes into the inmost temple of
your heart. Affirmations can be unbeatable tools for upliftment and
healing.
But it is useful to think of self-talk as a well-trained
animal ally, like the seeing-eye dog is for someone who is blind. If you
have a veteran buddy, it can protect you and even save your hide now and
then. If you have an unruly pup that is not completely under your command,
you don't dare step across a room, much less out the door and into the world
with such a dangerous beast.
In other words, when you say be still, it becomes a stone
sphinx, a great guardian of your energy, which is otherwise often exhausted in
needless inner and outer chatter. When you use self-talk and the voice in
general purposefully, thoughtfully, it becomes a commendable power in its own
right.
Who's in charge, you or your runaway thoughts [which are
always accompanied by self-talk]? When things get out-of-hand, find a way
to anchor to a core Still Silence. Command the tossing seas of your
emotions, your restless thoughts to Be Still. There are any number of ways
to do this.
Then BE STILL. SILENT. ... still as a stone in the
heart of a sacred forest.
You're in charge.
