1.
The Physical Death and Dying Resource Portal
Briefly: aaa-to-zzz support networks
[such as physical dying, grieving, kids, suicide prevention]; preparatory guidance and suggested forms
regarding legal and practical needs, including differences state by
state; controversies / discussions concerning D&D topics; new options [e.g., green burial,
caring for our dead at home], the D&D practices of cultures all over
the world.

Kübler-Ross]

The PDD will be
particularly sought out for its wealth of information and resources and support to help people through the morass of that numb state of total vulnerability when D&D becomes an overwhelming presence in one’s life. We are so accustomed to our predilection for denial, that even when we have been observing
someone [or oneself] dying over the course of many months or years, we just are not prepared; I mean, we do not even do
'the short-short list' of just practical stuff, most of us, to be prepared for it – a will, advanced directive, living will, contact list
of family members and also for emergencies / death, clear plan in place for what will happen to the body [burial or
cremation? and where?], a support plan and network for the survivors, pre-funeral arrangements [which, if any, funeral home or alternative, etc.], a kind of mental-emotional and spiritual preparedness. I know a woman who over two years watched her dear husband die of cancer, and neither of them took steps to ensure a will would be in place at his death, and they were well off. But after his passing, it took another two full years to get things managed as a woman in North Carolina so she finally had access to her husband’s estate!
These are some of the things people will find here.
During and after, human / psychological / spiritual support is also paramount for most of us, each in our own way. This became another issue to address on the D&D subweb and in a number of ways, such as bereavement support not only for adults but for the special needs of children. Also for those who contemplate suicide and for those who fear death . .
There will be a collection of information about various cultures and
religious / spiritual interests all over the globe -- what distinguishes
their approaches to and rituals sourced in death and dying.
For probably a majority of people this is as deep as they are willing to go, just short of things spiritual or religious, or even short of adequately meeting emotional and psychological needs.
However, a lot of people who never before considered such things, once having a head-on encounter with death and dying,
much as I did, suddenly
must find a way to make peace with this spectral presence always in our lives.
Maybe their present or forgotten religion will be a guiding force for them, or maybe they are compelled to seek outside the usual answers they grew up with,
like the kind of education such materials as can be found on these two
websites may provide about these experiences and / or an extensive finder community.
So the
breadcrumbs to the other subwebs, in particular the Larger Life Reality
Portal . . .

[Bereavement
groups: since bereavement is an area of great
vulnerability, I have decided not to facilitate this on this
site. I think safety can be a huge factor in regards
to how their needs may be helped through the internet,
especially with children. But we can do something like
Meetups so people can find professional and community
support where they live.]

ADMIN.
AND OTHER STAFF
|
-
Answering
email.
-
Fostering
support groups.
-
[Question:
do we need to make special monitoring available for any
interactives for children and teenagers? In fact do we
want to offer interactive environments for this purpose??]
-
Any
back-end responsibilities that are not automated to
facilitate what site has to offer -- mostly answering
d&d and technical questions troubleshooting web-related
issues.
|
|
NOT
SURE HOW TO CATALOG THESE [usually because of complexity
of what is needed, no one simple answer, or special notes
needed]
|
-
Online
'workshops': could be either powerpoint or video-type
presentation with static page containing references,
contacts, links, pages to download and print. All
the practical issues -- how
to prepare for one’s eventual death/dying; new options
[green burial and home funerals]. Each of these and in
fact quite a few other D&D topics can be presented as a
whole series of workshops, ebooks, even conferences,
programs.
-
Memorials Online:
largely static except for database of members and what they
have put on their memorial page.
-
Support
groups, including for bereavement [adults, also specifically
for children, same for teenagers]: meetups or
something like this would be an optimum route to connect
people with others in their local areas.
-
Suicide
prevention: setting
up extensive access with list links professionals
trained to provide that kind of service. We will also
have static pages of educational and inspirational
materials.
