A Grateful, Loving Presence

Witnessed by Many People

RE:    Lynne McTaggart’s Peace-Intention Experiment

The Peace Intention Experiment, conducted by Lynne McTaggart in September, 2008, had been carefully planned in concert with a number of scientists for sometime.  The idea was to get as many people as possible to participate in sending a very cohesive and powerful intention of peace and healing to a place chosen in the world that was in difficulty / conflict.  It and similar experiments to follow had been created to document scientifically whether collective intentionality, a group of people thinking / praying with the same focused purpose, can have an evidential, measurable impact.  Participants did not know, until the first day and time we were to sign on, what the actual target would be -- which place in the world we would be sending peace and healing to, together.

In this first experiment, the target was a location in Sri Lanka, which has suffered many years of civil war.  Because of this conflagration stemming from religious intolerance, hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost, as many more continue to suffer the consequences.

The first page after you signed on got you into the frame of mind we were encouraged to cultivate, quieting our minds into peace in preparation.  I believe she had stated as part of the intention that we aimed to see at least a 10% decrease in conflict, which a lot of people found strange, but it was part of "the science," what the hey.  The experiment was set up to run for several days in a row, at the same time of day, focused on the same target each time, and which took about 15 minutes.  Once we signed on, the succeeding pages we saw were timed to automatically transition from one to the next.

We would sign in, focus ourselves into a quiet meditative state, then we were shown pictures of many people who had died in one of the battles and told the story of this region.  We were taken to another page where there was a picture of children together having a great time and obviously friends who represented populations from both sides of the fracas – Muslim and Hindu.  They gave us a living example of how this peace could look and feel in the long run.

Then we were automatically taken to another page with a photo of the actual target site, a gorgeous valley with a waterfall feeding into a large pond, surrounded by steep and lush green hills or mountains.  Truly, it looked like a perfect candidate for a holy shrine.  This valley was large, and we could see a small gathering of people at the edge of the pool of water, as if in a religious ceremony.  We were to look at this photo and send healing, peaceful thoughts, prayers, energy into this region and these people.  This was the second day I had participated, and Lynne’s very first global experiment.  It was Tuesday, 9/16/08.  Here are my notes from that day [we were also encouraged to keep a journal of what we experienced]:

While looking into the picture of that gorgeous waterfall / valley, I suddenly felt this sense of a palpable Presence of blessing overlighting this whole area, as discernible as another person -- as one great, pervading entity that seemed to belong to this specific place. Although this was a ‘static photograph’ and we were not told when the picture was taken, this ‘Presence’ seemed alive, as if we were looking at a LIVE scene, not a still picture, totally unique in my experience.  At one point, I felt it come right out of the screen and into my personal space, like a grateful and loving friend sticking hir head in the door to say thank you, for the merest second or two, as if inclusive of each of us in a way that could be experienced individually!  I didn’t see this but then and since, have associated a golden amorphous coloring and ‘3-D’ impact with this Presence.

What an experience!   Needless to say, I was awe-struck and had to wonder if others had experienced something like this too, and wrote this up on her forum to see if this might have been the case.  On that day, and perhaps other days as well, according to later comments by McTaggart, it turns out "many people" had something on the order of the same type of astonishing experience.  It will be an adventure to see this continue to develop.
