Gnosticism / The Gospel of Thomas

Inner Experience is the "Wake Up" in the Cosmic Coffee ..

first saying of Jesus "First he will be disturbed .."

Tenth saying of Jesus ... Fire

1.    Fire – Lo, here .. there [Jesus] – Gospel of Thomas

[Saying 10] Jesus said:  I have thrown fire on the world.  Look!  I watch it until it blazes.

Stevan Davies’ commentary:  In the context of the Gospel of Thomas, the blazing of the fire that Jesus has cast will fall on individuals fanning that fire, cast in the past, into a blaze for themselves.  The fire will not be some world-historical event that will take place in the indefinite future; it is not some coming day of judgment.  Here the fire may represent Jesus’ words, for it is the sayings of Jesus that Thomas’s Gospel values most.  In saying 82, Jesus says, “Whoever is near to me is near the fire.  Whoever is far from me is far from the Kingdom” in a manner that equates the terms “fire” and “Kingdom.”  Here when he throws fire upon the world we probably should understand that he has come to reveal knowledge of the Kingdom that is spread out upon the world.
